The art
How does a piece fill in?
The whole composition is there from the day you add an event, as faint outlines. Once a day a little more of it fills with colour, sweeping in from the top left. All-day events step at midnight; timed events step at the event’s own time of day. On the final day the last few strokes fill hour by hour, and the piece is complete when the counter reaches zero.
A countdown less than a year away paints from the day you add it to the date itself, so it starts blank. A date only days away starts partly filled, because every piece spans at least a week. A countdown more than a year away is painted as a series of editions, about a year each.
What happens when the date has passed?
The finished piece is kept: you will find it in the event’s Editions and in the Archive tab. If the event repeats yearly, a new edition starts painting toward the next occurrence. If it does not repeat, the event turns into a count-up (“777 days since”) and a new edition paints toward each anniversary.
Can I change how a piece looks?
Open the event and tap Edit. You can pick the art style, palette, frame and orientation, or tap Recompose to draw a fresh piece until you find one you love. A new style, palette or orientation applies to the piece that is still painting; finished editions keep the ones they were completed with.
Widgets
How do I add a widget?
- Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget.
- Search for Tidsala and pick a size: small, medium or large.
- To choose which event it shows, touch and hold the widget and tap Edit Widget. A new widget shows your nearest upcoming event.
For the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customise, then add Tidsala’s ring, bar or line widget. In StandBy, Tidsala shows the small widget. Apps cannot place widgets for you; this is how iOS works.
My widget is not up to date.
Tidsala prepares each widget’s pictures ahead of time, for the next two days, whenever you open the app, after you save an event and during a daily background refresh. If a widget looks behind:
- Open Tidsala once. That refreshes every widget.
- Check that Background App Refresh is on for Tidsala in the Settings app (General, Background App Refresh). Low Power Mode pauses it.
- If a widget still looks wrong, remove it and add it again.
iCloud, devices and backups
How does iCloud sync work? Can I turn it off?
iCloud sync is on by default. Your events and finished pieces are stored in your own private iCloud database, so they appear on every iPhone and iPad signed in to the same Apple Account. We cannot see that data.
To turn it off or on, open Tidsala’s Settings tab and use the iCloud sync switch. Turning it off keeps every event on this device; changes simply stop reaching your other devices until you turn it on again. If the switch is dimmed, sign in to iCloud in the Settings app first.
How do I move my gallery to a new iPhone or iPad?
With iCloud sync: sign in to the same Apple Account on the new device and install Tidsala. Your gallery arrives from iCloud by itself; the first launch may take a moment and shows that it is syncing.
Without iCloud: on the old device, open Settings in Tidsala and tap Export gallery. That creates a single file with every event and finished piece; save it to Files or send it with AirDrop. On the new device, open Settings, tap Import from file and choose it. Events already in the gallery are kept as they are.
Purchases
How do I restore my purchases?
Open the Settings tab and tap Restore purchases under Purchases, or use the restore button in the Shop. Purchases belong to your Apple Account, so make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the account you bought them with. Erasing your data in Tidsala does not remove purchases.
Do purchases work with Family Sharing?
Yes. Every item, pack and the Collector’s Pass can be shared with your family through Family Sharing, as long as purchase sharing is turned on for your family group. Family members can restore them on their own devices.
What is free?
Everything a countdown app needs: unlimited events, every widget, reminders, yearly repeats, iCloud sync and export, plus four art styles, five palettes, three frames, two walls and a warm spotlight. The shop sells extra styles, palettes, frames, walls and lights as one-time purchases. There are no ads and no subscription.
Reminders
How do reminders work?
Each event can remind you on the day, one day before and one week before; choose them when you edit the event. All-day events remind you at the time set under Time for all-day events in Tidsala’s Settings (9:00 unless you change it). Timed events remind you at the event’s own time.
I am not getting reminders.
- Check that notifications are allowed for Tidsala in the Settings app, under Notifications. Tidsala’s own Settings tab also tells you when they are off.
- Check that the event has at least one reminder turned on.
- Focus modes can hold notifications back.
- iOS lets an app schedule a limited number of notifications at once. With many events, Tidsala schedules the nearest first and adds the rest each time you open it.
Events
How do I delete an event?
Touch and hold its piece in the Gallery and tap Delete, or open the event, tap Edit and choose Delete event. Deleting removes the event and its finished pieces. For a few seconds afterwards you can tap Undo; after that it is permanent, also on your other devices that sync with iCloud. On iPad with a keyboard, the Delete key works too.
Can I hide an event without deleting it?
Not in this version. If you want to keep a piece but remove the event, save the artwork first (Save artwork on the event’s page) and then delete it, or export your gallery as a backup.
How do I start over?
Settings, Erase All Data removes every event, artwork, setting and reminder from this device and from iCloud. Your purchases stay with your Apple Account.
Accessibility
Does Tidsala work with VoiceOver and larger text?
Yes. Every piece has a spoken description with its name, style, palette, how much is painted and the time left. Text follows Dynamic Type up to the largest accessibility sizes. Reduce Motion replaces animations with gentle crossfades, and Increase Contrast makes the unpainted outlines easier to see. Progress is always shown as a number as well, never by colour alone.
